We Have A Soldier
I got a first-hand look at the military recently. My nephew graduated from basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. I flew down there and met my sister in Atlanta, then we puddle-jumped over to Columbia.

We enjoyed Family Day with Private Walker, and the Graduation ceremonies. I generally disagree with our current war policies, but there is something special about the soldiers. I was really proud of my nephew. It was also quite a feeling that they were so courteous to the civilians (like me). I can imagine that it would certainly go to your head if you were a person of any importance, to have soldiers scurrying around at your whim.

It was also interesting to see how young most of them were. Private Walker is one of the older ones, at age 22. Many of them are going back to finish their last year of high school!

I suppose the bottom line is that if I criticize our policies, let it be known that I now have some skin in the game.
